Adopt-a-Family 2009
Adopt-a-Family — the most traditional of our events to help former Shelter residents over tough spots in the year is underway. Now in its 16th year, Adopt-a-Family is made possible by volunteers and generous community donors.
The goal is to provide a gift for each family member and a generous food box for every FESCO Family who needs help over the Holidays. It's because of generous community members like you that struggling FESCO alumni and current residents are able to meet the basic needs of their families. As expected we have seen a drastic increase of families in need this year due to the current economic situation and the high unemployment rate.
If you are interested in adopting a family you will be matched with your family in November. Please complete and return the Donor Response Form (Word or PDF) by November 15th.
Life Chiropractic College West will once again be the staging site for this support program. Drop-off of gifts and donations will occur on Thursday, December 10, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM and on Friday, December 11, from 9:00 AM to 7:00 PM. Specific directions and drop off instructions, along with guidelines for gift wrapping will be provided along with the wish list.
For those who cannot adopt a family this season but would still like to donate, several options are still available: providing a food box for our families or donating a gift card of any increment to stores such as Wal-Mart, Target, Payless, or Safeway.
For those interested in volunteering, jobs include checking people in, putting gifts into hefty bags, labeling/labeling/labeling, and moving bags to designated location. There are generally some extra items donated, so you may be asked to help determine which extras go to which family. On Saturday, jobs include checking in drivers and families and helping move gifts to waiting cars.
If you're interested in volunteering, please e-mail Ashley DaSilva at adasilva@fescofamilyshelter.org , or call her at the 510-886-5473 and let her know what hours and on what day.
As we move into the final months of 2009, please accept our wishes for a safe and memorable holiday season for you and your family.
Best wishes and thank you!
